Edgar H. Randall was the surveyor for the City of Fredericksburg in Virginia. In September of 1906 Randall completed a detailed survey of the Washington Avenue extension. Randall made recommendations on widening and realigning roads within the 3,000+ foot section he surveyed. He also recommended “move from the Potter’s Field all interred bodies to an appropriate spot outside of the corporation, and then divide Potter’s Field into building lots.”1 The bodies were moved to another cemetery later for a different reason.
Edgar H. Randall was born in Virginia on Jan. 5th 1853. At age 37, he married 33 year old Sudie Gill in 1890. Their first child, a daughter named Edna was born in 1894, followed by another daughter named Edmonia in 1898. Clearly, his daughters were named after him.
According to the 1900 census the Randall family were living Rock Hill Township in Stafford County.
By the 1910 census the Randall family were residents of the City of Fredericksburg and his occupation on the census is listed as Civil Engineer.
On November 30th, 1919, Edgar Randall passed away. On the 1920 census Sudie and both daughters are back in the Rock Hill section of Stafford County. Sudie is now a 62 year old widow. Edna and Edmonia are 26 and 21 years old. Interestingly Edmonia Randall is also listed on the 1920 census living in the rooming house of Fanny May Burke in Ward 1 of Alexandria Virginia with five cousins of Burke and six additional roomers.
By the 1930 census Edmonia hasn't returned home and 73 year old Sudie and 36 year old Edna are still in the Rock Hill section of Stafford County.
In 1940 Sudie is 82 years old and now living in the Aquia Magisterial District in Stafford County. Edna is still by her mother's side and is 46 years old. On Feb. 25th, 1946 Sudie passed away six weeks prior to her 89th birthday and 27 years after her husband's death.
Edna Randall never married apparently and passed away in Fredericksburg on Feb. 5th 1973, she was 79 years old. The trail of Edmonia disappeared. She likely got married after 1920 and the records haven't been linked on the family search website.
Edgar, Sudie, and Edna were all laid to rest in Ebenezer Cemetery in Stafford County, Virginia.
