REN Conner | 1977 | From his book, 100 Old Cemeteries of Prince William County, Virginia. Cemetery is legally reserved. Wire fence borders enclosure of about one acre with gate facing obliquely toward sharp curve on Smith La. on crest of hill. Lot is densely overgrown and majority of markers are very weathered. All marked graves are in east portion of lot; there appear to be additional unmarked depressions. No burials are known in west or rear portion, which has been Ante-bellum Bradley house, home of Hornbaker and Hazen families. Cemetery was probably established as family burial place for estate but over the years has become a community cemetery for Bradley area. According to People and Places, unmarked Civil War graves were visible near Bradley house in 1930's. These are not apparent today, but the author was informed by James H. Payne that the burials were on the north side of the house near the edge of the yard. The dwelling is believed to have served as a military hospital. |
